Compact Flash
Many portable electronic devices are using compact flash today. Compact flash means mass storage device format. Compactflash carrying the usage of flash memory in many standard enclosure for storing. In 1994 Sandisk was the first company which has launched compactflash format in the market.
Recently many digital cameras are using compactflash as storage medium. Earlier comsumers were using smaller cards instead of compactflash . But today it has high usage among professional DSLR cameras because of its great capacity and reliability. One can see two parts of compactflash cards. The type I is of 3.3 mm where as type II is of 5mm thickness. The compactflash type II has usage in microdrives and many other devices like hasseblad cfv digital back. The thickness of compactflash cards were given by the older pc card standard.
The concept of compactflash was taken from Intel’s NOR based flash memory. Later it followed the standard of NAND. Today compactflash is one of the oldest and successful formats onehad in the field of professional cameras which had led the market now. Compactflash formats right now carrying larger capacities than any other formats in the market. Individuals can use compactflash directly into the pc card slot with the aid of an adapter. One can also buy compactflash card available in different capacities nearly 512MiB to 100 GiB from the market. Now individuals can purchase largest compactflash cards of 64MiB models provided by many companies from the market.
